This specimen began as a sharply formed, blocky borax crystal which was replaced by snow white tincalconite. The replacement occurs by dehydration, when borax - Na2B4O5(OH)4·8H2O loses five molecules of water to become tincalconite - Na2B4O5(OH)4·3H2O. From a less common locality for this borate replacement, known mostly for hanksite. Excellent condition.
