40087: Tincalconite replacing Borax - $30 Trona Mine, Trona, Argus District, Argus Range, San Bernardino County, California Small cabinet - 6.9 x 4.3 x 2.3 cm 63 grams Specimen status: Available Send an email with specimen number to order This specimen began as a sharply
formed, blocky borax crystal which was replaced by snow
white tincalconite. The replacement occurs by dehydration,
when borax - Na2B4O5(OH)4·8H2O
loses five molecules of water to become tincalconite - Na2B4O5(OH)4·3H2O.
From a less common locality for this borate replacement,
known mostly for hanksite. Excellent condition.
