Dark brown to coppery hewettite microcrystals abundant on matrix. Hewettite - CaV6O16·9H2O can lose six molecules of water to form metahewettite - CaV6O16·3H2O. These species are visually indistinguishable; hence the identification as (meta)hewettite. Visible to the unaided eye, but best appreciated under magnification - hand lens, microscope or camera lens.
