Dark brown to coppery hewettite
microcrystals abundant on matrix. Hewettite - CaV6 O 16 ·9H 2 O
can lose six molecules of water to form metahewettite -
CaV6 O 16 ·3H 2 O.
These species are visually indistinguishable; hence the
identification as (meta)hewettite. Visible to the unaided
eye, but best appreciated under magnification - hand lens,
microscope or camera lens.
