A dark gray hematite matrix hosts moderately abundant, small but gemmy calcite crystals to a few mm. That the matrix is hematite and not goethite was verified by a streak test. Although the collection from which this specimen came did not give a locality more specific than Durango, I suspect the specimen is from the Ojuela Mine.
