16411: Gypsum variety Selenite - $8 Lake Gilles Gypsum Deposit, Corunna Station, Iron Knob, Middleback Range, Eyre Peninsula, South Australia, Australia Miniature - 3.6 x 3.0 x 2.8 cm 31 grams Specimen status: Available Send an email with specimen number to order A highly transparent, twinned gypsum
crystal having some central brown inclusions. From a
locality famous for its bizarrely-formed gypsum twins. The
term 'selenite' is overused, with some dealers and
collectors using this term to describe any gypsum
specimen, when the term should only be used for colorless,
transparent material. This specimen, however, truly
desires the moniker. As expected for a mineral this soft
(Mohs hardness 2) some minor rubs and edgewear are noted.
