Several gray-green to pink tourmaline crystal fragments cemented together by a matrix of opaque, bladed calcite. Probably formed when a pocket ruptured, breaking tourmaline crystals whose fragments fell to the bottom of the pocket and were later partially encased in calcite. Calcite is uncommon in Southern California gem pegmatites, but less so at the Himalaya Mine. The calcite glows white to creamy yellow white under longwave and shortwave UV.
