00872: Gypsum - $24 Swan Hill, Swan Hill Rural City, Victoria, Australia Cabinet - 10.6 x 5.3 x 4.3 cm 95 grams Ex Trinity Mineral Company Specimen status: Reserved Send an email with specimen number to order A multi-layer gypsum specimen, whose
life appears to have begun as a series of nearly
colorless, translucent to transparent gypsum blades
reaching 4.3 cm. These first generation crystals are
contacted on the base (where growth started) and
terminated at the tops. As the water level fluctuated
and/or the dissolve gypsum concentration changed and/or
the temperature changed, a thin layer of small but
abundant gypsum crystals were laid down. Sometime later,
another thin gypsum layer was laid down. This specimen is
in superb condition (considering the mineral's softness
and tendency to bruise and cleave) and displays very
nicely. Ex Trinity Mineral
Company; a note on the back of the previous dealer
label gives a purchase date of December 1999 and a
purchase price of $50.
