20117: Gypsum variety Selenite - $24 Bou Beker, Touissit-Bou Beker Mining District, Jerada Province, Oriental Region, Morocco Small cabinet - 8.5 x 2.3 x 1.8 cm 37 grams Specimen status: Available Send an email with specimen number to order A doubly terminated gypsum crystal
'wand', highly transparent...definitely earns the
'selenite' moniker! A Thin layer of included, brown iron
hydroxide/oxides, shallow underneath one face, makes this
transparency difficult to see in the photos. One
termination is complete while the other is partial (where
removed from matrix). Unusual form for the locality; the
wand shape and inclusions make this look more like a Naica gypsum
than one from Bou Beker.
Very nice condition, especially considering this mineral's
softness (Mohs 2) and tendency to bruise, bend and cleave.
